A little fun by a self-important twat*
Interesting developments here at the Weather Report yesterday. Someone who clearly has a very popular blog posted a link to one of my posts. Since then, between 400-500 [mostly] Nicelanders have logged on to read about the Iceland Weather Report’s dealings with Paul F. Nikolov.
For those of you who have just joined us, here’s a brief recap. Just over a year ago, I wrote a post expressing my views of a matter concerning an Icelandic boy named Aron Pálmi Ágústsson, who at the age of 14 was convicted as a sexual offender in Texas and sentenced to 10 years in prison for an act he committed when he was 12 or 13. I have strong views on the subject. So do other people. And said Paul Nikolov happens to take the opposite view to mine.
I have nothing against people expressing their views, even in my comments box, as long as they do so in a respectful manner. However, when people come storming into my house with their dirty boots on and proceed to trample on my opinion, condescend, and attack my person, I will immediately evacuate them from my property. Which is why I deleted Paul Nikolov’s comment in that particular instance. Regular readers will know that I am not prone to deleting comments. In fact, the only time I have deleted anything from my comment box – apart from spam – are two comments that were both left by Paul F. Nikolov, a year apart.
The first was the one I cite above. Paul Nikolov later returned [at the time he was a journalist at The Reykjavík Grapevine] and we had a somewhat heated exchange. All in a day’s work, I thought, and subsequently put it out of my mind, thinking very little of Paul Nikolov until a year later when another comment appeared out of the blue in my inbox – the one I described in this post.
Now, apart from everything else, you really have to wonder about the mental condition of someone who seethes with resentment for a full year, before seizing an opportunity to launch an attack on someone who has done nothing to provoke it other than post an opinion on her own blog. Over at the website cruel.com [described rather brilliantly here as ‘The socially inept YouTube-loving junior college dropout's MySpace page’] he urged his pals to spam the Weather Report with the bile-filled comment Aron Pálmi should rot in jail – however, clearly the users at cruel.com are not as socially inept as the above writer presumes, because none rose to the challenge.
But enough of all that.
Since last weekend, Paul Nikolov has been in the news a bit. See, he took part in the preliminary elections on behalf of the Left Green party last weekend and wound up with a fairly decent result. Why the humanist Left Greens have recruited someone into the party who writes this kind of bile and has such fascist tendencies as Paul Nikolov is a mystery to me. It smacks of opportunism – as though they were casting around for someone who was ready to tackle the question of immigration and just picked the first kid who puts up his hand. I wonder if they know what the guy gets up to in his spare time.
Anyway, in the first hour or so following the evening news, in which the results of the preliminaries were announced, Paul F. Nikolov logged on to the Weather Report at least twice [oh yes, I’ve got his number]. Later in the evening, someone did a Google search on his name – and subsequently posted the above-mentioned link through which hundreds of people have now logged on to read about what Paul F. Nikolov does for fun. Predictably the man himself denies any association with the ‘jadetree’ alias [click on link, scroll down, then click on 'jadetree'], but I’m sorry: were this a trial he would undoubtedly be convicted on grounds of probable evidence.
For the record, I’d like to point out that I don’t give a rat’s ass about Paul F. Nikolov or his political aspirations. Granted, he’s someone I’d rather not see in parliament, but then the same goes for a number of people who are there already. What I cannot abide, however, is such blatant duplicity. Putting on the freshly-polished halo for the world, whilst surreptitiously spewing hatred. I voted Left Green last time; I won’t be doing so this time if Paul F. Nikolov is on their list.
OH! YOU CAME HERE FOR THE WEATHER?
It’s been a supremely gorgeous day. Chilly – temps just below freezing – but with the brilliant winter sun shining at that remarkably lovely angle, bathing everything in a golden glow. Went out at noon to catch some rays and was truly humbled by the gorgeousness of the sun, sea and snow on the mountains. Temps right now are, er... °C according to the mbl.is website [probably around 0] and sunrsie was at 10.55, sunset at 15.41.
