Frankenstein's hyrax

So I took AAH to her orthodontist Dr Frankenstein this morning, to have this monstrosity removed. Yep, the 'rapid palate expander' or 'hyrax' that's been prying apart her skull for the past six months was made history as of today and replaced with a thin strip of metal that will continue to hold her mouth apart for, oh, as long as it takes for her skull to grow back together. I bet they're using those muthas in Guantanamo prison to get the Arabs to confess.

Anyway, here's a friendly tip: If you are thinking of having children, do make sure you order the kind with straight teeth. It will save you a lot of aggravation and - yes - expense. This morning Frankenstein removed the 'hyrax' [sounds conspicuously like a woman's reproductive organ, wouldn't you agree? ], put that thin piece of metal instead, took a few photos presumably to see if AAH's head was coagulating properly and, according to the work description, cleaned off some glue [!]. The damage? ISK 51,000 [USD 760 / EUR 575]. And the next appointment will only set us back oh, twice that much. ISK 100,000 or thereabouts. Ouch.

But who needs to travel abroad this year anyway? Not us. EPI and I are resolved to tour Iceland this summer, to enjoy our beautiful country. After all, people come from far and wide to experience the things we have on our doorstep ... I have lost count of the myriad home exchange offers we have had since the beginning of the year. And every summer when we're on some inevitably brief excursion to somewhere extraordinarily beautiful I say to EPI: 'Oh wow, it's so beautiful here, next year let's not go anywhere...' but in the end we always break down because we think 'mmm beach, sun, sand...' and we probably will this year too, but we will.not.go. And that's final.

Don't quote me on it, though. Just in case.

AND OUR HYRAXICAL WEATHER IS
It's been snowing on and off since last night! This morning it was so beautiful, a think [yes I really wrote that, was s'posed to read 'thin' but I think I like 'think' better] blanket of downy white snow over everything, and sunny. I just love going out in the morning when the snow is all fresh and the air smells of it. It lasted a couple of hours, then it was gone. It's fairly mild you see, 1°C at the moment [37 if you speak F] and sunrise was at 7:48 am, sunset at 7:27 pm.
