Because the sad truth is that I have no shame
First post of the year, everybody, and what's it about? Not my New Year's hangover [mild] nor the New Year's fireworks last night [subdued, on account of the storm] nor the insanely delicious meal we had last night [seafood tartelettes/Henkel Trocken ... beef sirloin marinated in brandy and port and massaged by EPI twice a day for three days/Masi Italian red ... cake from Iceland's best baker Jói Fel for dessert/espresso], nor all the fireworks and sparklers we bought last night and didn't use [because we cannot comprehend that our kids are no longer five years old] ... No.
Today's post is a shameless stab at self-promotion. Thing is, the 2008 Bloggies [the "Oscars" of the blogosphere, if you will] are open for nominations from now until January 11th and the truth is that I'd really like to be nominated. And being considered for the Bloggies [if I understand the rules correctly] is dependent on the sheer NUMBER of nominations received, so unless lots and lots of lovely readers click on this link and type in The Iceland Weather Report in one or more of the appropriate categories [say" Best European Weblog" or "Best-Kept Secret Weblog" or even "Best Writing of a Weblog"] we won't even have a chance* and will remain in blog oblivion forevermore, amen.
So: if you enjoy this blog, and would like it to continue, and want to do something nice for our YT, please take a moment to click on the link and nominate us. Also, if you read through the rules you'll see that you must nominate at least three different blogs in one go for your ballot to be valid, and if you're stuck for ideas, I can highly recommend any of the links found in My Kinja or on my blogroll to the right. Oh, and you might want to call in reinforcements. Get all your friends involved. And your family. And your next door neighbour. And the person who sits next to you at work. And your dog, cat, hamster [provided they have access to an ISP number that is different from yours].
Thank you! [Kisses!]
THE STORM WASN'T AS FURIOUS AS WE EXPECTED LAST NIGHT
And yet, the brennur were cancelled [they were lit tonight at 6 pm instead] and people were shooting up fireworks all evening because, presumably, they feared that by midnight all hell would have broken loose [the storm became very intense around 1 or 2 am]. Consequently the pyrotechnics are midnight were somewhat lesser than they usually are [but still fairly spectacular]. Today there was still a stiff wind and pretty cold with the windchill. Currently temps are 3°C [37F], sunrise was at 11.20 and sunset at 3.42 pm.
PS. One of my lovely German readers sent me the link to the German TV show they air on December 31 each year - Dinner for One - an absolute comedy gem.
* Actually there's some pretty stiff competition so chances are slim; however ... nothing ventured, nothing gained - right? And, just for the record, I've already nominated my favourites.
