What we've been up to
It's been a busy week. We had friends staying from the UK [Jon and Dominique, aka 'the perfect houseguests'] and they allowed themselves to be dragged all over the south country by us the zealous Nicelanders intent on proving that our sights exceed all others in their sheer magnificence and gorgeousness. In other words, they got the Golden Circle treatment.
Þingvellir [not Pingvellir, as I'm sure you know by now...]
The rift where the Eurasian and American tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of 1 cm per year:
Öxarárfoss waterfall, with very little water in it this time:
Öxará river, looking downstream from the waterfall:
'Geysir', which is actually not the real famous Geysir [it's right next door, but it's practically extinct], but Strokkur, which unfortunately doesn't shoot water as high as the old Geysir, but which is still pretty entertaining. The picture took just as it was starting to blow, but was only about halfway into the air, so imagine it twice that high and you'll have an idea of how high it goes:
... and the hole, as it's filling back up with water... [once a dog went barking mad after Strokkur blew and accidentally threw itself into the hole. I shall refrain from any distasteful 'hot dog' quips - suffice it to say that it didn't return, very sad]:
Next stop Gullfoss, or 'Golden falls'. Now this is a proper waterfall:
... with proper force:
... awesome sky, just a short while later:
AND THAT CONCLUDES OUR GOLDEN CIRCLE TOUR.
So then yesterday, EPI and I went for a nature walk, and found loadsanloads of berries:
... some of which were blue:
also a lichen-encrusted stone with hair:
... and at the end another waterfall, by golly!
THEN TODAY...
AAH was out on a photo shoot with a Dutch stylist and photographer and may very soon appear on the pages of a popular Dutch style magazine with international counterparts, I'll say no more:
... we froze our buns off out there by the Grótta lighthouse and YT surreptitiously snapped photos of the entire operation. But everyone was happy. Especially the Dutchmen. And AAH, who got to put on loads of gorgeous outfits and flash her megawatt smile and strut her stuff - never mind that her lips were turning blue.
WHICH VERY CONVENIENTLY BRINGS US TO THE WEATHER
And as you can see, it's been fairly sunny but just a tad this side of cool. It's that pesky wind again. Still, today temps probably went up to around 16°C - that's just a guesstimate though. Right now, 12°C and the sun came up at 06.15 and set at 20.37.
PS Special thanks to Rozanne, without whom I would not have known how to post pics from Flickr like this, so easy!
