Sylvía aces while songwriter sulks
So one of the songwriters in the Eurovision preliminaries here in Iceland has gone and filed a formal complaint because the Sylvía Nótt song was allowed to stay in the competition. Sheesh! Can this man not see that the supercrafty Sylvía Nótt performance was head and shoulders above the sap-and-cheese profferred by the competition, and her song would have made it to the finals even had it not leaked out onto the Web? Obviously this guy's real motive is to have the song eliminated so that perchance one of his songs [he entered a grand total of three] will beat it to the trophy. Bah. I say let the song stay in f'rcryingoutloud, to allow Sylvía to at least raise the humour standard of the actual Eurovision competition a peg.
What makes this guy's sulkiness particularly childish is that the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service [RÚV] offered an excellent compromise. Four songs were scheduled to pass through to the finals last Saturday, and the compromise consisted of a promise that, were the Sylvía Nótt song to pass through, a fifth song - as per the televoting - would also be admitted. In other words, the four highest songs, minus the 'offending song', were admitted to the finals. Which is exactly as it would have been had the song been eliminated - well except for the fact that Sylvía Nótt will win and she would not win if she were eliminated. But of course that is a most trivial detail.
Incidentally, thanks to Ali for depositing this link to the performance in the comments box yesterday. As you may note, it's sung in that delightful dialect Icelandenglish. It just cracks me up, particularly the part where the male dancers crash through the paper screen and one of them gets stuck in the paper. Guffaw!
AND? DO WE STILL HAVE SPRING?
You're dying to know what the weather's like I'm sure, and I'm happy to report that we have the most exquisitely mood-lifting sunny skies at the moment. Temps dropped sharply yesterday though, after our extended warm spell, and are currently hovering around the freezing mark. But no matter - spring is in the air, there is hardly a breeze, and everything looks lovely. There was even a wee light in the sky when I opened the blinds at 9 this morning. Sunrise was at 09.53 and sunset at 17.32.
