All hail the green light
It's now official: our very own Magni and his girlfriend Eyrún have announced their separation, having "grown apart emotionally" following Magni's rise to Supernova stardom this past summer.
Did I not see this coming? I did.
Not that being able to say 'I told you so' gives me any satisfaction [much]. Magni and Eyrún were our Tom and Nic. Our Jen and Brad. Our Bubbi and Brynja. [nevermind.] Magni was elevated to near-saint status for his devotion to his family and now a wild rumour is circulating that Magni's got a thing going with Dilana - she's been here around three times since last August, and now old Magni is set to go touring with the Supernova house band and a bunch of the other contestants. Including her. Hmmmm.
Nah. I don't buy it. She's far too scary. And with all due respect [for I'm sure she's really a good girl - just a wee bit lost] - who would want to kiss her with all those sharp objects protruding from her lower lip? Those puppies could inflict some serious injuries. I'llsaynomore.
IN HAPPIER NEWS
Icelanders, per capita, hold the world record for going to the movies [or close - don't quote me, no don't, really] and until now we have been seriously deprived of quality films that are not big-budget Hollywood sap.
Enter Græna ljósið [The Green Light], a new distribution company commited to screening 1-2 new alternative/indie films per month. How excellent is that? And not only will they proffer something more profound and interesting than our regular junk-food fare, they have also promised three things: a minimum of ads beforehand, no intermission [if you've ever been in a film that was stopped mid-sentence so the audience can be herded out to buy overpriced, over-salted, dry popcorn, you will understand], and no selling of tickets after the film has started [Icelanders are notoriously late] so viewers will not be disturbed. Are they heaven-sent? I do believe so.
So tonight, thoroughly enthused, EPI and I attended a screening of Little Miss Sunshine - a small flick made good at Sundance and elsewhere. Really enjoyed it - witty, poignant, well-acted and written, acerbic, with some excellent social commentary. More like that, please!
OUR WEATHER IS DAMP AND COLD
The kind that chills you to the bone. Brrr. It's been like that all day - temps are above freezing but there's that damp in the air that somehow makes its way into everything. It was raining buckets when we came out of the cinema, but by the time we came out of the restaurant where we had dinner afterwards [Icelandic Fish & Chips, FYI, they serve only organic stuff and are really good] it had stopped. Due for colder weather and snow tomorrow. Temps right now 2°C and the sun came up at 11.14 and went down at 15.52.
