Bloveling
Hey, it seems I'm co-writing a blovel. Isn't that great?
A blovel, you ask? Yes - like a novel, only written by blog people on a blog. [ ... INGENIUS!]
I totally fell for the idea when I saw it over on Annie's blog a couple of days ago. So much that my enthusiasm far surpassed my rational thinking and I'd signed up for it before I even properly knew what it was. It reminded me of that game, you know, where each person adds a sentence to the one before it, and you wind up with a silly - and very funny - story.
However, my fellow blovelists are revealing themselves to be pretty fantabulous writers, meaning that instead of turning out some hilarious, off-the-cuff, flippant little story, they're actually off and running with something that looks like a fairly strong and ambitious work-in-progress. Yi-ikes!
I was ready to throw in the towel yesterday after I'd read the first two installments, mostly because a) it's appearing sort of Hammet-esque, which isn't really YT's forte, and b) so far it's set in Los Angeles, to which I've never been and don't know the first thing about, and looks like it may move to the UK in the foreseeable future, which I do know a bit more about, but perhaps not enough to actually move characters around in.
My attempts at bowing out gracefully, however, were thwarted by Valerie, who suggested that I could simply relocate one of the characters to Niceland and have them do a little song-and-dance routine up here. Which is precisely what I plan to do when it's my turn. Heh. I'm feeling quite smug about it, too.
CAN THE SORT OF WEATHER WE HAD YESTERDAY LAST?
Yes. But unfortunately it didn't. Or perhaps fortunately - this sort of overcast weather with a chill on the breeze is a lot more conducive to keeping the butt glued to the office chair for doing some work. Although I did manage a run today ... Incidentally!! Today I lost my eBay virginity and I'm very proud of it, too, because I saved frigging 7,000 Icelandic crowns [frigging 110 US dollars] by buying a new pair of Asics on eBay. Whoo-hoo!! They arrived today and they were just as described and only ran me 50 percent more than the 123 dollars or so I had to pay for them on eBay plus shipping ... 50 percent in taxes and tariffs, that is. But even so, that was ISK 7,000 less than they would have cost me here in the store. So - that's decided. From now on I do all my shopping on eBay because eBay is my friend, and thumb my proverbial nose at greedy Nicelandic retailers. Temps in the capital 9°C [48F], sunrise was at 3 am, and sunset at 11:56 pm.
